Till a week back, I wasn’t aware of this movie. Not taking anything away from this movie for I am ignorant about its popularity or status. I heard about this movie in one of the podcasts where few Data Scientists were talking about how amazing this movie is. Definitely, caught my attention and as I looked at the leading actor (Domhnall Gleeson from ‘About Time’), I was sold on the movie.
Even though this movie was made a decade back, I found the graphics and technical stuff pretty pleasing to the eye. The robots didn’t look clumsy or rudimentary, yet believable and sophisticated compared to a lot of movies that came after it. The discussion between the Business Tycoon (some sort of marriage between Google and Facebook) and Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) is the highlight of the movie. Personally, I could relate a lot with the subject that they were talking about.
You would always wonder who is right and who is wrong in the entire movie and that is probably the strongest part of the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would love to watch it again or even a sequel, if the director ever plans to. It does remind me of some Black Mirror episodes but then imitation is the purest form of flattery. I was left with few questions at the end – Did AI become so human that it graciously adopted the flaws in humans? What drives the moral compass of AI: Rules that we have created for a peaceful existence or one that gives it what it desires?
If you haven’t watched this one – I highly recommend this movie. For the data analysts like me, this is a “No Miss”.
